Job Summary:

We are looking for a responsible and experienced Journalist who wants to succeed. Some knowledge of the Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare sector, to support our Editorial team to produce content for our publications. You will provide high-quality writing and editing skills in a timely and professional manner as a senior part of the editorial team.

The main duties include reading press releases, researching features and articles, establishing and maintaining contacts, interviewing sources, writing, editing and submitting copy, attending events, proofreading, generating ideas for future stories and features that would interest readers, complying with industry and ethical guidelines, planning content for publications according to editorial policy and publishing requirements. To be successful in this role, you should be proactive, meet deadlines and communicate effectively.

Key Skills:

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or Related Field

Work experience gained within the PR, journalism trades may also be beneficial in your applications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Excellent writing skills with ability to write quickly, effectively and creatively
  • liaising with, clients and stakeholders via telephone face to face and email;
  • The position requires a proactive self-starter who can contribute ideas and stories as part of the Editorial Team.
  • Oversee publication production including ensuring adherence to deadlines and company records are updated.
  • Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling punctuation and syntax.
  • Write and assemble together news stories that will interest the audience.
  • Rewrite press releases and other materials submitted for publication in house style required for publications.
  • Review and approve proofs submitted prior to publication deadlines.
  • Provide additional cover for other team players during absences or when assisting with specific projects.
  • Confer with editorial team regarding placement of and emphasis of developing news stories.
  • Represent the Editorial team when attending events and meetings.
  • Gather together a number of different sources and ensure that all the facts are presented when writing articles.
  • Keep the audience abreast of all industry news and developments by finding the most recent and relevant information.
  • Carrying out background research and presenting findings.
  • Liaise with all departments that they are assisting in the meeting of set deadlines.
  • Liaise with network of contacts, maintaining regular contact to gain sources for stories.
  • Provide creative ideas and solutions in order to support organisation growth.
  • Keep up to date with industry and ethical developments and apply them when writing features, articles and reports.

Software Skills

  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skill. Advanced knowledge is especially useful when working on Word and PowerPoint.
  • Google (documents/drive).
  • Dropbox
  • The diary system we use is Microsoft Outlook.
  • Knowledgeable in social media and website usage.
